18 June - 21 June 2016 Vietnam Trip

This is my first trip to Vietnam and it was really fun!

We went to so many places including a museum, Ho Chi Minh House and a cruise along Halong bay. It was a scenic and relaxing tour we booked with ASA. So far it has been a breeze travelling with them. There was a variety of different tourists from around the globe travelling with us. It was a great experience meeting people from various walks of life including a man who worked in the cinema setting up the film reels. He watched many movies in his time working there we also met other tourists including students and solo travellers.

The food was great too we got to try out a cooking class on board the cruise and also kayak around the area in halong bay. There was also the surprising cave we visited where there were many figures and shapes appearing in the caves formed over many years. I have compiled a video of the tour although I did not manage to film in the Confucius temple of Literature but I did take photos in there so you may go to the photo album linked in this blog post.

If you have not watched the video you can do so here:

Les Miserables June 2016

9 June 2016

Went for Les Miserables musical and it was such a great musical to watch. The acting was impeccable and the singing was on point.

The characters were memorable and I particularly liked Corsette. The singing by her was sweet and pleasing to the ear she was delicate and dainty as Corsette.

One moment that stood out for me was Fantine's singing as well for I dreamed a dream. It was an emotional moment.

Other moments that stood out included when Gavroche was shot they cleverly blocked him off with the barricade and we could only hear his singing just when he climbs back in view he is shot in a heart wrenching moment but the scene continues and we see his body lying dead on the stage.

Another moment included when Inspector Javert kills himself and the stage transforms into this whirling pool of water as he descends slowly into it. The stage work was ingenious and innovative.

I will remember this play for a long time to come I bought the concert DVD for $30 and music CD for $20. It was a good buy and a memento of the night at the musical.

Shamisen Session with Hirotmitsu Agatsuma May 2016

21 May 2016

Went to watch the Shamisen Session with Hirotmitsu Agatsuma as it was my mother's birthday. It was a memorable experience as he played tunes both new and old. He mixed traditional Japanese folk tunes with popular tunes from the musical the sound of music. I think he played my favourite things.

He also made the audience laugh while he read off a sheet of paper in English. He had the text pre-written before the performance.

We enjoyed the session and hope that he would come to Singapore again.
